Ever wonder how to keep the winter chill out of your older home? The road to a cozy, warm respite from the brisk weather starts with keeping the warm air inside, and that cold, arctic air outside.

If you’re lounging in your home (or sleeping at night) in sweatshirts and ski socks, it’s probably time for a home energy audit. Topping Martha Stewart’s list of 52 Ways to Improve the World, a home energy audit uses sophisticated diagnostic equipment to pinpoint air-leakage and other factors which contribute to your reliance on those stacks of blankets at the end of the couch. Lucky for you, Homeowners Hub provides FREE energy audits and will help you participate in the New Jersey Home Performance with Energy Star Program using New Jersey’s premier provider.

If the thought of a getting a hotel reservation to thaw numbness from your fingertips is appealing, hold on — our FREE home energy audit will show you how to shed the bulky indoor wardrobe, and bring back the T-shirts and comfy lounge wear.

Let’s start with the obvious. The pile of blankets on top of you may been the essence of your winter heating plan. And sure, that space heater in the corner could indeed make for a few degrees of warmth. However, the economic reality of maintaining a comfortable temperature in an older home using the home’s heating system is challenging during mild months and downright scary during winter’s coldest months.

Most New Jersey Homes were built before 1970 and contain inadequate levels of insulation. Adding insulation will make the home more comfortable, reduce heating & cooling bills, and will likely increase the resale value of your home.

Owning an older home doesn’t have to mean you have to rely on flannel pants and hoodies to stay warm while battling obnoxious drafts. A Home Energy Audit is the first step to discovering the improvements that bring today’s energy efficiency standards into yesterday’s homes. An assessment will prescribe upgrades that, when installed, will have a dramatic effect on your home’s overall comfort, provide energy savings, and will save you significant amounts of money over time.

The extra bonus? A Home Energy Audit is the first step towards participating in the New Jersey Home Performance with Energy Star Program which offers up to $4,000 in cash-back rebates and up to $10,000 in zero-interest financing. These incentives are available to New Jersey Residents who increase the energy-efficiency of their home by replacing outdated heating & cooling equipment, perform comprehensive air-sealing, and install insulation upgrades.

Incentives are based on the estimated total projected energy savings of each project:

  • A home improvement project with projected energy savings of between 5% to 20% qualifies for a $2,000 cash-back rebate and a $5000 zero-interest loan.
  • A home improvement project with projected energy savings of between 20% to 25% qualifies for a $3000 cash-back rebate and a $10,000 zero-interest loan.
  • A home improvement project with projected energy savings of over 25% is eligible for a $4000 cash-back rebate and a $10,000 zero-interest loan.

Homeowners participating in this incentive program receive a rebate check mailed to them within sixty days of the completion of their project. If a participant has elected zero-interest financing, loan payments do not start until work has been completed.

A Home Energy Audit is the first step to discovering the improvements necessary to reduce overall energy consumption and take legitimate steps to save our planet. To qualify, a Home Energy Audit must be performed by a New Jersey Home Performance with Energy Star Accredited Contractor, and we’ve got the perfect one!
